Mr Vaman Maroly son of Late Maroli Appanna ( Maroli Appanna is one of the founder member of Mangalore Sangha During 1926 and the first general Secretary) and Kadri Ganga Bai, born on 9thJanuary 1941.
After initial studies in Mangalore Mr Maroly migrated to Mumbai , joined M / S Otis Elevator Company as a Junior Engineer .During his stay in Mumbai, then known as Bombay, he also got involved in Devadiga Sangha Mumbai during the tenure of Late P R Moily, Late Bhoja Rao and Sri Bhujangadar to name a few.
Mr Maroly got married to Veni Maroly daughter of late Kanvatheertha Vaman Rao and late Mulki Rathnavathi Rao in 1970 . He is blessed with 2 daughters Poonam and Anupam Maroly ,.both the daughters completed their high School education in Qatar,where their parents were stationed.
Dr Poonam Maroly M D, after qualifying in K M C Mangalore and Chicago Medical University U S , a practicing doctor in V A Hospital in Dallas, Texas , got married to Mr Sai Kumar M S ; M B A ,an I T. Wizard, specialized in Telecommunication Engineering . The couple have a son who is studying in one of the most prestigious U S School for the Talented and Gifted Of townview, is an ardent tennis player and a Scuba Diver with many laurels in his credit at this tender age of 14 years.The family settled down in Dallas uptown in U S .
Miss Anupam Maroly after graduating at B M S Engineering Collage in Bangalore pursued her studies in Bio Medical Engineering in Texas A & M University in U S , joined M / S. UnderWriters Lab , a Licensing authority of Medical Equipment manufacturing companies.As an Auditor Miss Anupam travels all over the world to inspect their clients establishment in the field of medical equipment and is settled down in Los Angeles U S A.
Well coming back to Mr Vaman Maroly, when Otis Elevators got a M O U from Govt of India to manufacture 24. Escalators for Calcutta underground, Mr Maroly was picked up by the management of Otis to receive higher manufacturing training in Otis factories at Germany and Spain , besides recommending the tools and machinery required to manufacture of Escalator parts in India. Then, Escalator was a luxury equipment in India and virtually there were no Escalator existing those days . Hence we are proud to say a Devadiga boy was instrumental in bringing Escalator Technology to India . He was very much involved in establishing Escalator manufacturing plant in Mumbai, besides in manufacturing few units of Escalators for in around Mumbai including Air India Building, Nariman Point Mumbai. However due to financial situation prevailing in the country , Escalator remained as a luxury item during 1970's without much demand.
Meanwhile, Mr Maroly got an offer from Thyssenkrupp Elevators of Germany as a Manager Escalator Division in Dubai which he gladly accepted and was involved in a couple of projects,However this happiness also was short lived as there was no market for Escalators even in Dubai at that time, where at present thousands have been installed.
Eventually Mr Maroly was placed in Qatar to establish a new office of ThyssenKrupp, for marketing Elevators and Escalators. Mr Maroly successfully established the market and the branch office in Doha since 1979, which is at present one of the leading supplier of Elevators and Escalators in Qatar . Though the German management, is well disciplined and they never kept anyone below their expected retiring age of 60 years while in service ,However he was kept as Resident Manager until he reached 68 years and relieved when he opted to resign to spend more time with his daughters in U S.This is in recognition of honesty and integrity of a Devadiga in Qatar.
In Qatar the Maroly couple were well known in public life particularly in Indian community. To name a few Mr Maroly was
1) Founder President of Tulu Koota Qatar
2 ) Chairman of Sri Sathya Sai Centre of Qatar ,opened a spiritual outlet for the devotees.
3 ) Founder member of Ideal Indian School Doha Qatar, which has a student strength of 5000 at present
4 ) Founder member of Indian Community Benevelont Forum, which overseas the problems faced by the less fortunate Indian Community in Qatar , particularly labour community, who are being exploited by the their employers or recruiting agents . Mr Maroly has the record of extending a helping hand to at least 3 Devadiga's in Qatar during his stay ,who were in deep trouble .
5 ) Founder member of Indian Cultural centre which promotes Indian Culture in Qatar. This organization was successful in bringing singers like Pankaj Udhas , Mannade and many more artists to promote Indian music and culture in Qatar.
6 ) Following the footsteps of her husband Mrs Veni Maroly was the President of Indian Women's Association in Qatar, for several years besides an active member of Indian Community Benevolent Forum, by helping the Maids of Indian origin who are languishing in Qatar Jail/ Deportation Centre for various reasons, by visiting them frequently and looking after their requirements including arranging their travel back to home town.
In recognition of their service to Indian community in Qatar, the Non Resident Indian Association, New Delhi, awarded " Hind Rathan Award " a very prestigious award to Mr Maroly.
The couple returned to India during 2009, after spending nearly 30 years in Qatar .
Maroly's continued their journey of socializing in Mangalore as well. Devadiga community was quick in drafting Mr Maroly as vice President and Mrs Maroly as President of women's wing of Karnataka Rajya Devadigara Sangha, Mangalore on their return to India from Qatar.
During the time,The couple graciously donated a sound and lighting system to Samaja Bhavan Mangalore, which was not available. On being selected as President of Mangalore Sangha during 2014, Mr Maroly took a bold step to modernize Samaja Bhavan hall

b) By making Samaja Bhavan Echo free by providing acoustic based false ceiling with appropriate lighting by L E D System
c) To cater the emergency power by equipping the complex with a high powered Generator.
d ) By organizing an indoor play area and an auditorium to the Mangala High School , in the terrace by providing roof and a stage for the benefit of students.
These are the few things to mention during the tenure of Maroly as President of Karnataka Rajya Devadigara Sangha , who made our Samaja Bhavan as one of the finest venue for any type of event and retired to join the family in U S A.
Mr Maroly says he will not rest until we get a land for our Mangala Educational Centre and have our own building with all the facilities and to upgrade Mangala School to a college level Educational Institution.
Besides, Maroly together with successful home maker Veni Maroly , are actively involved in A ) Sri Sathya Sai Centre of Mangalore B )Sri Soorya Narayana Temple Maroli and C ) Lions Club in Mangalore..
Traveling is a hobby of this couple, who love to visit various countries and at present are relaxing and enjoying the company of members of family and friends in U S A.
