South Canara District has dedicated many musicians to the society though history of music of coastal Karnataka is not ancient beyond one or two centuries. In the last century there were many musicians hailing from coastal towns Kasargod, Mangalore and Udupi who carved a niche for them selves in the music world. Seer Sri Guru Vadiraaja Swami was a well-known lyricist who wrote lyrics in Kannada Sanskrit and Tulu apart from being a class singer and violinist. Laxmi Bai from Udupi had spread the fragrance of Music not only in Mysore Palace and Nizam’s palace but also in Burma, Nepal, Cylon, Paris and London. How can one forget the contributions of Nadayogi violinist Manjunathayya who went all the way to Mysore to become the disciple of Bidaram Krishnappa?
