UDUPI DEVADIGA SANGHA ELECTIONS MIRED IN RULE VIOLATIONS, TOTAL LACK of TRANSPARENCY & DEMOCRATIC PROCESS
Udupi: The 76th Annual Generalbody Meeting of 2013-14 and election to the Management Committee Devadiga Seva Sangha was held on 27thSept 2015.
As per the directions of the Hon’ble High Court the District Registrar of Societies had earlier ordered the Sangha to hold the AGM meeting on 8th September 2015. But without adhering to that, the Sangha conducted the meeting 20 days later. In the meanwhile, following a complaint of alleged violation of rules by the Sangha, the DR visited the Sangha’s office on 11 Sept.2015 and inspected the documents pertaining to the members list. He pointed out a serious lapse committed by the Sangha’s administration of not properly maintaining, updating, and publishing the members list before starting the election process. These irregularities and lapses by the Sangha was brought to the notice of the High Court.
Subsequesnt to all the episodes; The calendar of events for the the election of Management Committee signed by Mr.Sunder Devadiga as the Election officer was attached to the AGM circular notice dated 1-9-2015 declaring eelction shall be held on 11am Sunday 27th Sept 2015. The dates were fixed accordingly for filing naminations, withdrawal etc.
But what was shocking & disgusting was that on the first day filing of the nominations the members asked for the ‘voters list’ from the Election officer. But the election officer was not in possession of the list, however promised to give it by evening. But later in the evening expressing his inability to provide the ‘voter list’ he resigned as election Officer. One Mr. Dinkar took the charge as Election Officer though his name did not appear anywhere. The ‘voters list’ was given to the members on 18- 9-2015, the last day of filing the nominations. Charging an arbitrarily exorbitant sum of Rs 960/- for the voter list and a non-refundable nomination fee of Rs.2000/- as election expenses was unjustifiable and not as per the byelaws of the Sangha.
More ever undemocratically; the members who are also the members of other sanghas and residing in their jurisdictions were barred from contesting and voting in the election as per the clause 12 notice issued. Members protested for the imposition of those conditions as a high-handed and unlawful act of the Management Committee and that this is the jurisdiction of the AGM. Sadly no action was taken & intimated to the contestants.
Dramatically on the day of the voting the members noticed to their utter dismay that what was furnished to them earlier was only ‘members list’ but not the ‘voters list’. The voters list released on the voting day did not have the names of those legitimate members who are the members of other sanghas and residing in their jurisdiction. Accordingly the members from Udyavar, Kaup, Padubidri, Brahmavar, Hiriadka , etc. numbering more than 200 were not allowed to vote. Is it democracy? or??
Elderly members who were refused Voting Right
This is not only a great injustice done to those members but also amounted to gross violation of the rules. There was total lack of transparency, democratic process and openness. No Sangha practicies this narrow minded 'Zionist' mindset. This is imposed on the members, that too after accepting their membership for so many years. There seems to be willful voilation of the exisitng & practiced system; as the area of operation of the Sangha is not defined in the ByeLaw. This seems to be fit case for legal remedy.
The legitimate right of exisiting members to VOTE was crucified by the demonish, powermongering attitude of the outgoing Office-Bearers which is one of the most unlawful and shameful act of those person who are egoists to the core and selfishmost individuals.
Contacted by devadiga.com; Many seniors & youths of all walks of life reacted disgustingly and angrily at this arbitrary unilatral decision of the Managing committe at the behest few demonish office bearers.
We in devadiga.com would appeal to all the members of the community to join hands & condemn this act of dictatorship and force upon those in helm of affairs to revoke this clause and give back Voting Rights to those legitimate exisitng members and to those who have been deprived on 27th Sept 2015 and also fix immediately voting day to cast their votes.
Enough is Enough....We need JUSTICE.
